Paying Homage To Your Home

I am currently living in the second home I have ever purchased, but it is the first home I know will be mine for as long as I want it. Since we were somewhat of a transient family before the fall of 2022, it is comforting to know that I am settled and able to do whatever I want to my home without having to hand it off to the next family a year or two later.

And some good advice I received when I was moving in, talking to my realtor about all the things I wanted to "change," he said to me to live in the house for a while and to "let it talk to me." However, I did not listen and that's why almost every wall has been painted twice, things rearranged and creating extra projects that didn't need to be started in the first place. Then several months into it, I decided to take that advice.

My house was built in 1954, in a very post war mid century modern style. Over the years some of the more notable traits of that era have been wiped away such as wood cabinets and paneling but some has survived like the original tile in the bathroom. So being the sentimental person I am, I want to return some of its charm. Not necessarily a restoration but a reclamation. Reclaim its beauty, its intention and its design.

That is where my grand millennialist inspiration comes from. If my house was a person, that is exactly the persona it would exhibit. The first purchase I made in exploring this concept was this beauty.

What I loved about this is the simplicity and the immediate acknowledgement of its history. We see birds throughout history in art or statues, but the wood grain and elegant lines of this bird scream mid century modern. It is the perfect addition to any room in a home of any period.

So this is where we will begin. Until next time!
